Pearly Black Zaire (Altolamprologus calvus) is a slow-growing, uniquely shaped Tanganyikan cichlid known for its deep black coloration with a pearlescent shimmer and fine white speckling. Its flat, laterally compressed body allows it to maneuver easily through rock crevices, making it well-suited to rocky aquascapes and shell-dweller environments.

This species is relatively peaceful by cichlid standards but can be territorial, especially during breeding. It’s best kept with other Tanganyikans of similar temperament and size. Calvus are ambush predators by nature, moving slowly and striking quickly—so they should not be housed with small fish or fry.
