Aquaglobe Sabawood

Aquaglobe Sabawood | Premium Natural Driftwood for Aquascaping and Planted Aquariums

Sabawood is a step above standard aquarium driftwood — a naturally weathered, densely textured wood with complex branching, a rugged aged appearance, and a rich, dark colouration that brings genuine character and depth to any aquascape. Sustainably harvested, meticulously cleaned, and free from harmful chemicals and toxins, each piece is unique in form and ready to become the structural foundation of a planted tank, biotope setup, or nature-style aquascape.

Its dense, rot-resistant construction makes it exceptionally durable in aquatic environments — a long-term hardscape investment rather than a piece that deteriorates and needs replacing within a year.

Why Sabawood Works So Well in the Aquarium

The complex, twisted branching structure and heavily textured surface of Sabawood give it a versatility that smoother, simpler driftwood pieces lack. It works as a dramatic central focal point, a branching mid-tank feature, a background anchor, or a natural hiding and shelter structure for fish and invertebrates. Its textured surface develops a rich coating of biofilm over time — an excellent natural grazing surface for shrimp, snails, and small bottom dwellers — and provides an ideal attachment point for epiphytic plants such as Anubias, Java Fern, Bucephalandra, Weeping Moss, and other mosses that will gradually colonise and soften the wood’s form as the tank matures.

Tannins and Water Colour

Like all natural driftwood, Sabawood releases tannins into the water when first introduced, gradually tinting it a warm amber colour that mimics natural blackwater environments. Soaking in a bucket of water for several days before adding to the tank significantly reduces this — changing the water daily speeds the process. Running activated carbon in your filter will help maintain water clarity once the wood is in place. The tannin release is completely harmless and beneficial for many fish and shrimp species from soft, acidic water habitats.

What to Expect

• Each piece is completely unique in shape, branching pattern, and character — natural variation is part of the appeal
• A white, cotton-like biofilm may appear on the surface in the first few weeks — completely harmless and will disappear on its own or be consumed by shrimp and cleanup crew
• Soak for several days before use to reduce tannin release and help the wood settle
• Heavier pieces will sink readily — lighter pieces may need soaking or anchoring initially

Available Sizes

• XS through XXL — select the size that suits your tank dimensions and aquascape vision

Ideal For

• Nature-style, biotope, and planted aquascapes as a central hardscape feature
• Shrimp tanks — complex branching and textured surfaces provide exceptional biofilm grazing and shelter for moulting shrimp and shrimplets
• Community tanks as natural shelter, territory definition, and décor
• Plant attachment — Anubias, Java Fern, mosses, and Bucephalandra all establish beautifully on Sabawood’s textured surface
