Goldfish are one of the oldest domesticated fish in the world, with a history of selective breeding stretching back over a thousand years in China. Today they come in an extraordinary range of shapes, sizes, and colours — and our assorted selection celebrates that diversity.

An Important Note on Goldfish Care

Goldfish are frequently misunderstood as low-maintenance, bowl-dwelling fish. In reality, they are large, long-lived, and produce significant waste — they deserve and thrive in proper aquarium or pond setups with good filtration and regular water changes. Given the right conditions, goldfish can live for 10–15 years or more and grow to impressive sizes.

Care at a Glance

Goldfish Tank Setup

A spacious tank or pond with strong filtration, regular water changes, and good oxygenation is the foundation of healthy goldfish keeping. Sand or smooth gravel substrate works well, and the tank should have open swimming space as well as some décor or planting for enrichment. Hardy plants such as Anubias, Java Fern, and Vallisneria can work well, though goldfish may nibble on softer leaved varieties. Avoid sharp decorations that could damage their fins and scales.

Feeding Your Goldfish

Omnivores and enthusiastic eaters. A high quality goldfish pellet or flake food makes an excellent staple diet. Supplement regularly with blanched vegetables such as zucchini, spinach, and peas — peas in particular are excellent for digestive health and are especially recommended for fancy varieties prone to swim bladder issues. Frozen or live foods such as bloodworm, brine shrimp, and daphnia are relished as treats. Feed small amounts once or twice daily and remove any uneaten food promptly to keep water quality high.
