Bacopa monnieri is a hardy, adaptable stem plant with thick, rounded leaves that grow in tidy pairs along sturdy green stems. Its bright green color adds a clean, natural look to planted aquariums and contrasts beautifully against driftwood, rock, or darker background plants. In open-top or paludarium setups, it may even produce small white to pale lavender flowers when grown emersed.
This is an easy-to-keep plant, making it ideal for beginners and low-tech aquariums. It tolerates a wide range of conditions and grows at a moderate pace. Under higher light and with regular fertilization, it will grow more compact and bushy. Like most stem plants, it can be trimmed and replanted—simply cut the top portion and plant it back into the substrate to create a fuller look.

Bacopa monnieri is well-suited for community tanks, including setups with tetras, rasboras, guppies, mollies, corydoras, bettas, and peaceful gouramis. It also does very well in shrimp tanks, as its sturdy leaves provide surface area for biofilm and grazing. While it can tolerate mild nibbling, it is not recommended for tanks with large or destructive herbivores.
