Nematobrycon palmeri var., commonly referred to as the Black Emperor Tetra, is a striking variation of the classic Emperor Tetra. With a darker, velvety body and a bold black stripe running from snout to tail, this variety offers a moodier and more dramatic presence in the aquarium.

Like their standard counterparts, Black Emperors thrive in small groups and show best color when kept in a well-planted tank with dim lighting and dark substrate. Males typically display longer fins and more intense coloration, while females are subtler in appearance.
