The Blue Butterfly Halfmoon Betta is a study in contrast and elegance. The butterfly pattern — where the body colour extends into the base of the fins before transitioning sharply to a pale, almost translucent or white outer edge — creates a striking two-tone effect that makes the fins appear to glow from within as the fish moves through the water. Tank Setup

A planted tank with soft lighting, leaf hammocks or resting spots near the surface, and plenty of cover suits Halfmoon Bettas particularly well. The long, flowing fins of the Halfmoon form are beautiful but require some additional consideration — avoid sharp decorations that can snag and tear the fins, and keep water flow very gentle to avoid fin stress and damage over time. A tight-fitting lid is essential — Bettas are accomplished jumpers regardless of fin type.

A Note on Fin Care

Halfmoon Bettas have longer, more delicate fins than Plakat varieties and benefit from particularly clean, stable water conditions. Pristine water quality is the single most effective way to prevent fin rot — the most common health issue in long-finned Bettas. Regular small water changes, gentle filtration, and avoiding fin-nipping tank mates go a long way toward keeping those fins looking their best.

Feeding

Carnivores with a healthy appetite. A high quality Betta pellet as a staple, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as bloodworm, daphnia, and brine shrimp, keeps him in peak condition and enhances the depth and richness of his blue colouration. Feed small portions once or twice daily and remove uneaten food promptly.

Tank Mates

• Small, peaceful bottom dwellers such as Corydoras and Kuhli Loaches
• Snails and larger shrimp — use caution with small shrimp
• Avoid fin-nipping species of any kind — the flowing fins of a Halfmoon make it a particularly tempting target
• Never house with another male Betta
