Blue Fairy Rock is a beautifully distinctive natural stone that brings a cool, ethereal quality to freshwater aquascapes. Its soft blue-grey tones, textured surface, and naturally varied form give it a delicate, almost otherworldly appearance that works particularly well in nature-style layouts, iwagumi setups, and minimalist aquascapes where the stone itself is the focal point of the design.

Like all natural hardscape, each piece is completely unique in shape, size, and colouration — the variation between pieces is part of what makes natural stone so much more visually interesting than artificial alternatives.

Aquascaping With Blue Fairy Rock

Blue Fairy Rock’s cool blue-grey colouration pairs beautifully with bright green carpeting plants such as Dwarf Hairgrass, Lilaeopsis, and Monte Carlo, where the contrast between the stone’s cool tones and the warm, vivid green of healthy plant growth creates a striking and natural-looking composition. It also works well alongside driftwood, complementing warm brown tones with its cooler palette and adding visual balance to mixed hardscape layouts.

Its textured surface provides an excellent attachment point for mosses, Anubias, and Bucephalandra — plants that root directly onto rock surfaces and gradually soften the stone’s form as they establish over time.

Preparation and Safety

• Rinse thoroughly under clean tap water before adding to the aquarium — never use soap, detergent, or any cleaning products on aquarium rocks, as even trace residue is toxic to fish, shrimp, and invertebrates
• Do not boil or bake natural rock — extreme temperature changes can cause rocks to crack or shatter, which is both a safety hazard and a waste of a good piece of hardscape. A thorough rinse under running water is all that is needed
• Mosses, Anubias, and Bucephalandra can be attached to the textured surface with fishing line or aquarium-safe glue
• Each piece is completely unique in shape, size, and character — natural variation is part of the appeal

A Note on Water Chemistry

Before adding any new rock to your aquarium, test whether it affects water parameters by placing a piece in a container of your tank water and testing pH and hardness after 24–48 hours. Some natural stones raise pH and hardness as they slowly dissolve — important to know before adding them to soft water or shrimp setups. If your rock affects parameters significantly, it may still be suitable for harder water setups or African cichlid tanks where higher pH is desirable.

A Note on Sizing and Weight

Our rocks are sold by approximate weight in the following tiers:

• 0–5 lb — Small pack
• 6–10 lb — Medium pack
• 11–15 lb — Large pack
• 16–20 lb — Extra Large pack

Because these are natural stones, no two pieces are identical in shape, size, or weight — and it is impossible to pack rocks to an exact pound. Your order will always meet or exceed the weight of the tier you select, but may occasionally run slightly over. The number of individual pieces per pack will vary depending on the size and shape of the stones available at the time of packing.
