Boeseman’s Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia boesemani) is one of the most recognizable rainbowfish, beloved for its dramatic coloration. Males feature a striking contrast between a deep bluish front half and a fiery orange to yellow rear half. Native to the Ayamaru Lakes region in West Papua, Indonesia, these rainbowfish are active swimmers and best appreciated in groups.

They thrive in planted community tanks where they can display their vibrant hues and engaging schooling behavior. Males develop more intense coloration when kept with females in a group of 6 or more. Boeseman’s Rainbowfish prefer clean, well-oxygenated water and a diet rich in variety to keep their colors at their brightest.
