The Chocolate Gourami is a small and delicate freshwater fish prized for its warm brown coloration, subtle horizontal striping, and elegant shape. Native to Southeast Asia, it is a peaceful species that thrives in calm, heavily planted aquariums, often staying near mid- to upper-levels while exploring plants and hiding spots.

This species is moderate in care and requires stable water parameters, soft acidic water, and a well-established tank with plenty of cover. Chocolate Gouramis are shy by nature, so they do best in peaceful community setups or species-only tanks.

Compatible tankmates include:

• Small tetras and rasboras

• Corydoras and other peaceful bottom dwellers

• Dwarf gouramis or other calm, non-aggressive species

Avoid fast, aggressive, or fin-nipping fish that could stress them.

Tank Setup:

A heavily planted aquarium with shaded areas, driftwood, and floating plants is ideal. Soft, acidic water with gentle filtration helps replicate their natural habitat. Providing calm lighting and low water flow ensures they feel secure and display natural behavior.
