Festivum/Flag Cichlid - Mirificus Festivus - Mesonauta Mirificus

The Mirificus Festivum is a beautiful variant of Mesonauta festivus, showcasing a more refined and often slightly more vibrant expression of the species’ natural coloration. With its tall, laterally compressed body and signature vertical eye stripe, this fish has a graceful, almost angelfish-like presence in the aquarium. Subtle tones of green, gold, and silver shimmer across the body, especially under natural lighting.

Known for their calm, gliding movement, Festivums tend to occupy the mid to upper levels of the tank. They bring a peaceful, natural feel to aquascapes and are especially well-suited to planted or blackwater-style environments.

Care Requirements:
A minimum tank size of 40–55 gallons is recommended, with larger tanks preferred for groups or mixed communities. They thrive in warm, stable water with soft to moderately hard parameters and good filtration. Provide a well-structured tank with plants, driftwood, and vertical cover. A tight-fitting lid is important, as Festivums are known jumpers.

Diet:
Mirificus Festivums are omnivorous and readily accept a wide variety of foods. Feed a balanced diet of high-quality flakes or pellets, supplemented with frozen or live foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp. Including some plant-based foods or spirulina helps round out their diet.

Tankmates:
These cichlids are relatively peaceful and do well in community aquariums with similarly calm species. Ideal tankmates include larger tetras, peaceful cichlids, and catfish. Avoid very small fish that may be eaten, as well as aggressive or highly territorial species. They can be kept singly, in pairs, or small groups, though breeding pairs may become slightly territorial.
