Originally a grey-green striped fish native to the slow-moving streams, rice paddies, and coastal waters of India and Sri Lanka, this selectively bred golden variant has developed a breathtaking iridescent gold and blue-green colouration that shimmers brilliantly under aquarium lighting. What Makes the Golden Panchax Killifish Special?
Built for life at the surface, the Golden Panchax has a distinctly flat, upturned mouth perfectly designed for snatching insects and prey from the waterline. They are active, curious fish that patrol the upper level of the water column constantly — adding life and movement to a part of the tank that many fish ignore entirely. Males develop the most intense golden colouration, making a group of them together an eye-catching display.

A Critical Note on Tank Lids — Please Read Before Purchasing
Golden Panchax Killifish are exceptional escape artists and must be kept in a tank with a tight, gap-free lid — no exceptions. These fish will find and exploit the smallest opening in your cover, including gaps around filter tubes, airline tubing, and heater cords. If you use a hang-on-back filter, be aware that Golden Panchax have been known to swim up the filter intake and escape that way. We strongly recommend using a sponge filter or internal filter with this species, and sealing every gap in your lid with foam or tape. A fish on the floor is unfortunately a common story with this species — don't let it happen to yours.
Golden Panchax Killifish Tank Setup
A planted tank with floating plants, driftwood, and plenty of surface cover suits these fish perfectly, reflecting their natural habitat of densely vegetated, slow-moving water. Dark substrate and subdued lighting help bring out their gold and blue-green iridescence. Keep the water surface calm — they dislike strong surface agitation.
Feeding Your Golden Panchax Killifish
Carnivores with a strong preference for surface foods. They readily accept high-quality flake food and floating pellets as a staple, and will thrive with regular supplements of frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworm, and small insects. Their upturned mouth makes them natural surface feeders, so floating foods are ideal.
