Green Tiger Barb

The Green Tiger Barb is a vibrant and energetic variation of the classic Tiger Barb, featuring a deep metallic green body with dark vertical striping and striking red or orange highlights on the fins and nose. Its shimmering green coloration changes depending on the lighting and angle, making a school of these fish especially eye-catching in planted aquariums.

This species is easy to moderately easy to keep, making it a popular choice for hobbyists who enjoy active schooling fish. Green Tiger Barbs are lively and social and should always be kept in groups to encourage natural behavior and reduce aggression.

Behavior & Compatibility:

Green Tiger Barbs are fast, active schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least 6–8, though larger schools are recommended to spread out any fin-nipping behavior. When kept in proper numbers, they are much less likely to harass other fish.

They do best with other active species such as danios, larger rasboras, barbs, and robust community fish. Avoid slow-moving or long-finned species like angelfish or bettas, as Tiger Barbs may nip their fins.

Tank Setup:

A tank with open swimming areas and planted sections works best for this species. Plants, driftwood, and rock structures can help break up sightlines and create natural territory boundaries while still allowing room for schooling activity.
