Highbody/Longfin German Ram

The Highbody or Longfin German Ram is a visually striking dwarf cichlid prized for its vibrant colors, elongated fins, and rounded body shape. Males typically display brighter coloration, long flowing dorsal and anal fins, and subtle iridescent blue and yellow highlights, while females are slightly smaller with warmer body tones. These cichlids are active, charming, and add a lively presence to peaceful community tanks.

This species is moderate in care. They thrive in stable, well-maintained aquariums with soft, slightly acidic water and plenty of plants or hiding spots. German Rams are sensitive to water quality fluctuations, so regular maintenance is important for optimal health and coloration.

Behavior & Compatibility:

Highbody/Longfin German Rams are peaceful cichlids that do best in pairs or small groups in a planted aquarium. They may become territorial when breeding, but aggression is usually mild.

Suitable tankmates include:

• Small tetras and rasboras

• Corydoras and other peaceful catfish

• Dwarf gouramis

• Small peaceful community fish

Avoid large, aggressive cichlids or fin-nippers that could stress them.

Tank Setup:

A planted aquarium with soft substrate is ideal, featuring driftwood, rocks, and plants to provide hiding spaces and territorial boundaries. Gentle filtration and stable water parameters are crucial, and moderate lighting helps bring out their vivid colors.
