Feeding Guidelines

Pellet size and quantity should be matched to the size of your Betta:

• Bettas under 1.5 inches: Hikari Micro Pellets are recommended — 6 pellets twice daily
• Bettas 1.5–1.75 inches: 3 pellets of Betta Bio-Gold up to three times daily
• Add 1 pellet per additional quarter inch of growth, never exceeding 5 pellets per feeding
• Feed one pellet at a time and ensure each is fully consumed before offering the next
• If feeding multiple times daily, leave at least 3 hours between feedings and avoid feeding close to lights out

As with all fish, overfeeding is one of the most common and avoidable causes of poor water quality and health decline in Bettas. Remove any uneaten food promptly after each feeding. We personally feed our Bettas once daily and occasionally skip a day to allow their digestive systems to clear — something worth considering for long term health and condition.

A Note From Us

While Hikari's guidelines suggest feeding up to three times daily, our personal approach is once daily feeding with an occasional rest day to allow their digestive systems to clear. Bettas have small stomachs and are far more commonly overfed than underfed — a lean, consistent feeding routine goes a long way toward keeping them healthy and your water quality stable. This is purely what works for us, but it's something worth considering. Always remove any uneaten food promptly regardless of feeding frequency.
