Koi Plakat Betta, Grade A - Male

The Koi Plakat Betta is everything fish keepers love about Bettas, packed into a shorter, more powerful package. Where long-finned varieties impress with flowing tails, the Plakat turns heads with its bold, athletic build and intense colouration — and this Grade A male is a standout example. A vivid orange-red body with striking dark banding transitions into metallic blue-black fins tipped with electric blue rays, creating a multicolour koi pattern that is genuinely eye-catching from across the room.

Plakat Bettas are the short-tailed, fighting form of Betta splendens and are increasingly popular in the hobby for their hardiness, more active swimming style, and lower risk of fin damage compared to long-finned varieties. Tank Setup

A planted tank with soft lighting, leaf hammocks or resting spots near the surface, and plenty of hiding places will bring out the best in your Betta. A tight-fitting lid is essential — Bettas are accomplished jumpers. Avoid sharp decorations that could snag fins.

Feeding

Carnivores with a healthy appetite. A high-quality Betta pellet as a staple, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as bloodworm, daphnia, and brine shrimp, will keep him healthy and enhance his colouration.

• Small, peaceful bottom dwellers such as corydoras and kuhli loaches
• Snails and larger shrimp — use caution with small shrimp
• Avoid fin-nipping species and other male Bettas
