The Kuhli Loach (Acanthopthalmus semicinctus) is a slender, eel-like bottom dweller known for its shy demeanor and unique banded appearance. With alternating bands of dark brown and golden-yellow stretching along its flexible body, this peaceful loach adds both charm and activity to the lower levels of the aquarium—especially in groups.

Kuhli loaches are nocturnal by nature, spending daylight hours tucked under driftwood, rocks, or nestled in soft substrate. They thrive in soft, slightly acidic water with plenty of leaf litter or caves to mimic their natural habitat. Though shy when alone, they become far more confident and active in groups of five or more. These gentle scavengers help keep the tank clean by foraging for leftover food, though they still need a varied diet of sinking pellets and protein-rich treats.
