Labeotropheus trewavasae "Red" is a striking Mbuna cichlid from Lake Malawi, prized for its deep red to orange coloration, especially in dominant males. With a blunt, downturned snout and torpedo-like body, this species stands out both in color and structure. It is a rock-dwelling (mbuna) species that thrives in hard, alkaline water with plenty of rocky caves and crevices for territory and shelter.

Males are territorial and will display vibrant color to assert dominance, while females are typically more subdued but still attractive. This species does best in species-only or Malawi cichlid tanks due to its semi-aggressive nature.
