The Leptosoma Mpulungu, also known as the Sardine Cichlid, is a peaceful, open-water schooling species native to the deep, clear waters of Lake Tanganyika. This Cyprichromis leptosoma variant is prized for its vibrant electric blue and yellow coloration—particularly in mature males—as well as its unique torpedo-shaped body and graceful midwater swimming behavior.

Unlike many African cichlids, Leptosomas are peaceful and thrive in large groups, where their natural shoaling behavior brings life and movement to the upper water column. They do best in Tanganyika-themed setups with plenty of swimming space, rock structures, and calm tankmates. Males will flash their colors in brief displays, while females remain more silvery but equally elegant.
