Medusa Pleco LDA074

The Medusa Pleco (LDA074) is a fascinating and uncommon Ancistrus species, best known for the distinctive tentacle-like growths on its face that give it a wild, “Medusa-like” appearance. These fleshy appendages, combined with its darker body and subtle patterning, make it a standout choice for hobbyists looking for something a little different from standard bristlenose plecos.

Compared to the L034, LDA074 typically stays smaller and is a bit more manageable for mid-sized aquariums, while still offering that same unique look. It is primarily nocturnal and will spend much of the day tucked away in caves, driftwood, or shaded areas, becoming more active in the evening.

Care Requirements:
A tank of at least 25–30 gallons is recommended, with good filtration and stable water conditions. They prefer warm, well-oxygenated water and benefit from moderate flow. Provide plenty of hiding spots such as caves and driftwood, which also supports their natural grazing behavior. Like most plecos, they are sensitive to poor water quality, so regular maintenance is important.

Diet:
LDA074 Medusa Plecos are omnivorous and require a balanced diet. Offer sinking wafers or pellets as a staple, along with blanched vegetables like zucchini, cucumber, or spinach. They will also appreciate occasional protein-rich foods such as bloodworms or shrimp. While they may graze on biofilm and algae, they should not be relied on as primary algae cleaners.

Tankmates:
They are generally peaceful and do well in community aquariums with non-aggressive fish. Suitable tankmates include tetras, rasboras, peaceful cichlids, and other calm species. Some mild territorial behavior can occur between males or with other bottom dwellers, especially in smaller tanks, so adequate space and hiding spots are important.
