Pearl Gourami - Trichopodus Leerii

The Pearl Gourami is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and peaceful gourami species available. Its body is covered in delicate, pearl-like white spots over a soft silver-tan base, with a distinctive dark horizontal stripe running from nose to tail. Mature males develop a stunning orange to reddish throat and chest, especially during breeding or when fully settled. Their elegant finnage and calm swimming style make them an excellent centerpiece for peaceful, planted aquariums.

This species is considered easy to moderate in difficulty and is especially well-suited to planted community tanks. Pearl Gouramis are labyrinth fish, meaning they breathe air from the surface, and they appreciate calm water with access to open surface areas. They thrive in aquariums with plants, driftwood, and gentle flow, which help them feel secure and display their best coloration.

Pearl Gouramis are excellent for peaceful community aquariums and do well with tetras, rasboras, corydoras, peaceful barbs, rainbowfish, and other non-aggressive species. They are one of the best gouramis for community setups due to their gentle nature. They can also coexist with larger shrimp, though very small shrimp may occasionally be seen as food.
