Peppermint Otocinclus

The Peppermint Otocinclus is a distinctive and sought-after variety of Otocinclus known for its attractive contrasting pattern of pale silver or cream tones with darker markings along the body. Like other Otocinclus species, these small catfish are peaceful algae grazers that spend most of their time clinging to plants, glass, and décor while feeding on algae and biofilm.

Peppermint Otos are easy to moderately easy to keep, but they do best in mature aquariums with stable water parameters and natural algae growth. Their calm temperament and small size make them an excellent addition to planted and nano community tanks.

• pH: 6.0–7.5

• Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard

Behavior & Compatibility:

Peppermint Otocinclus are social fish that should be kept in groups of at least 4–6 to feel secure and display natural behavior. When kept in groups, they become more active and comfortable in the aquarium.

They are ideal for peaceful community aquariums and do well with:

• Small tetras

• Rasboras

• Corydoras

• Dwarf gouramis

• Shrimp and snails

Avoid housing them with aggressive or very large fish that may outcompete them for food or cause stress.

Tank Setup:

A well-established planted aquarium is ideal, with driftwood, plants, and surfaces that allow algae and biofilm to develop naturally. Gentle filtration and consistent water quality are important, as Otocinclus can be sensitive to sudden changes.
