Red Bosemani Rainbowfish

The Red Boesemani Rainbowfish is a medium-sized, striking freshwater species native to the Ajamaru Lakes region in West Papua, Indonesia. Males are renowned for their dramatic coloration, with a deep blue front half and fiery orange to red rear half, while females are more subdued with silvery-blue tones. Their active swimming and bold colors make them a showpiece for any community or species-focused aquarium.

This species is moderate in care, thriving in stable, well-maintained aquariums with consistent water parameters and plenty of swimming space.

Care Requirements:

• Tank Size: 55 gallons minimum (best in schools of 6+)

• Temperature: 24–28 °C

• pH: 6.5–7.5

• Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard

• Temperament: Peaceful, active, schooling

• Diet: Omnivore — high-quality flakes, pellets, frozen foods, and occasional live foods like brine shrimp or daphnia

Behavior & Compatibility:

Red Boesemani Rainbowfish are peaceful, active, and social, requiring a group of at least 6 to display natural schooling behavior. They coexist well with:

• Medium tetras, danios, and rasboras

• Corydoras and other peaceful bottom dwellers

• Dwarf cichlids and other non-aggressive species

Avoid overly aggressive or much larger fish that may stress them or compete for food.

Tank Setup:

A planted aquarium with open swimming areas, rocks, and driftwood works best. Moderate to bright lighting enhances their vivid coloration, while gentle filtration and stable water conditions ensure long-term health and active behavior.
