Red Laser Tetra - Watermelon Tetra - Hemigrammus Coeruleus (Wild Caught)

The Red Laser Tetra, also known as the Watermelon Tetra, is a vibrant, eye-catching schooling fish known for its iridescent body and striking red lateral stripe that glows under aquarium lighting. The body often shows subtle blue or silver shimmer, while the red line running from gill plate to tail gives it that signature “laser” appearance. When kept in proper groups, their colors intensify and create a stunning midwater display.

This species is considered moderately easy to keep and does best in well-maintained, established aquariums. Like most small characins, they prefer stable parameters, gentle flow, and a planted environment that mimics their natural habitat. Dark substrate and background help enhance their coloration significantly.

Red Laser Tetras are ideal for peaceful community aquariums with other small schooling fish such as rasboras, peaceful tetras, corydoras, small gouramis, and dwarf cichlids. They also pair beautifully with planted aquascapes and can coexist with larger shrimp, though very small shrimp may be viewed as food.
