The Red Top Ndumbi Cichlid (Pseudotropheus sp. “Red Top Ndumbi”) is a vibrant and compact Mbuna from the rocky shores of Lake Malawi. Known for its striking contrast, this species features a bold blue to lavender body offset by a bright red to orange blaze along the top of the head and dorsal fin—especially intense in dominant males. Its vivid coloration and smaller size make it a standout in any Mbuna display.

This species thrives in rock-heavy aquascapes with plenty of hiding spots and territory markers, which help diffuse aggression. Like most Mbuna, males can be territorial, while females are more subdued but still beautifully colored. Best kept in species tanks or mixed Mbuna communities with similarly tempered tankmates.
