The Rio Itenez L519 Pleco, a striking species of Ancistrus sp. (L519), is a rare and highly desirable bristlenose pleco originating from the Rio Iténez (Guaporé) basin. It is appreciated for its unique patterning and subtle earthy tones, often showing a mix of dark brown to olive coloration with lighter mottling or spotting that helps it blend naturally into driftwood-rich environments.

Like other Ancistrus species, this pleco is a hardy, bottom-dwelling catfish that spends much of its time grazing on biofilm, algae, and organic material across surfaces in the aquarium. Males develop characteristic bristles on the snout as they mature, which are used in territorial displays and breeding behavior. Despite this, they are generally peaceful and well-suited to community aquariums with other non-aggressive fish.

The L519 prefers a well-structured tank with plenty of hiding spots such as driftwood, caves, and shaded areas. Driftwood is especially important, as it provides both shelter and a natural grazing surface.
