Rotala Najeshan

Rotala sp. “Nanjenshan” is a delicate and highly sought-after stem plant known for its extremely fine, needle-like leaves and soft, bushy growth pattern. Believed to originate from Taiwan, this species creates a very different texture compared to most Rotala varieties, forming light, feathery clusters that resemble miniature aquatic shrubs. Because of its dense branching and compact growth, it is often used to create detailed foreground or midground accents in high-end aquascapes.

When grown under moderate lighting the plant typically stays bright green, but with strong lighting, CO₂, and good nutrient availability it can develop subtle golden, orange, or reddish tones at the tips. Its fine foliage moves gently in the current and provides a beautiful contrast to broader-leaved plants.

Growth & Maintenance

Rotala “Nanjenshan” grows as tightly branching stems that naturally form thick, bushy clumps. Regular trimming encourages lateral growth and helps maintain its compact shape. Because the stems are delicate, trimming with sharp aquascaping scissors is recommended.

This species performs best with CO₂ injection and regular fertilization, as the fine leaves can struggle in low-tech setups or under poor nutrient conditions.
