Aquaglobe Shrimpwood | Natural Branching Driftwood for Shrimp Tanks and Planted Aquariums
Shrimpwood is exactly what its name suggests — a fine, intricately branching driftwood selected specifically with shrimp, small fish, and nano aquariums in mind. Its complex network of thin branches, natural holes, and detailed surface structure creates the kind of micro-habitat that shrimp instinctively gravitate toward — endless surfaces to explore, graze on, and shelter within, at a scale that suits the smallest tank inhabitants perfectly.
Unlike many driftwood varieties that require extended soaking before they sink, Shrimpwood is naturally dense and heavy — sinking readily without weights or anchoring and staying put once placed. It also does not leach tannins or discolour the water, making it an ideal choice for aquarists who want the natural aesthetic of driftwood without any impact on water clarity or chemistry.
Why Shrimp Love It
The combination of fine branching structure, natural holes, and porous surface makes Shrimpwood exceptional for shrimp keeping in particular. Biofilm develops rapidly across every surface — providing a constant, natural food source that shrimp graze on throughout the day. The intricate branching also gives shrimplets safe spaces to shelter and develop away from larger tank inhabitants, and provides moulting shrimp the cover and security they need during their most vulnerable moments.
Mosses, Anubias, Java Fern, and Bucephalandra all attach readily to the fine branches — gradually softening and naturalising the wood’s form as they establish and spread across the structure.
Key Features
- Sinks immediately — no soaking, weights, or anchoring required
- Does not leach tannins or discolour the water — maintains pristine water clarity
- Intricate branching structure and natural holes provide exceptional shelter and micro-habitat
- Porous surface develops rich biofilm — a natural and essential food source for shrimp
- Durable and resistant to degradation — maintains its structure and appearance long term
- Safe for all freshwater fish, shrimp, and invertebrates
Preparation
Rinse thoroughly under clean tap water before adding to the aquarium. No soaking required — simply rinse and place. A white, cotton-like biofilm may develop on the surface in the first few weeks — completely harmless and will be consumed by shrimp and cleanup crew or disappear on its own.
Ideal For
- Shrimp tanks — biofilm grazing surfaces, shelter for moulting shrimp, and safe spaces for shrimplets
- Nano and planted aquariums as a branching focal point or mid-tank feature
- Community tanks as natural shelter and territory for small fish and invertebrates
- Plant attachment — mosses, Java Fern, Anubias, and Bucephalandra establish beautifully on the fine branching structure
- Paludariums and mixed aquatic and terrestrial setups
