Protomelas sp. "Spilonotus Tanzania" is a gorgeous Haplochromine cichlid found along the rocky shorelines of Lake Malawi. Known for its electric blue facial mask and shimmering golden to yellow flanks in dominant males, this species brings bold contrast and movement to any Malawi setup. As with many Haps, males are the more colorful sex, while females remain a soft silver-tan with subtle markings.

This open-water species prefers a tank with ample swimming space, scattered rockwork for territory, and high water quality. Males can be mildly territorial, especially with other similar-looking species, but they typically coexist well in a properly stocked and sized Malawi cichlid community tank.
