The Spotcheek Cichlid is a beautifully patterned Central American species known for its iridescent speckling and distinctive dark cheek marking. Its body shimmers with blue-green metallic spotting over a warm silver to bronze base, and mature individuals often develop soft pink to reddish tones along the belly and fins. Compared to some other Central American cichlids, this species offers vibrant color without extreme aggression.
Spotcheeks are considered moderate in care level and are suitable for aquarists with some cichlid experience. They are generally less aggressive than many similarly sized cichlids but can become territorial during breeding. A well-structured tank with sand substrate, rocks, and driftwood helps reduce stress and allows them to display natural behaviors such as gentle digging.
