Spotted Orange Seam Pleco L106 - Hemiancistrus Guahiborum

The Spotted Orange Seam Pleco (L106) is a striking and sought-after species, known for its dark body covered in fine, light spotting and the vibrant orange edging along its fins—often referred to as the “orange seam.” This contrast gives it a bold, high-end appearance that stands out beautifully against natural décor like driftwood and rock.

This species stays a manageable size compared to many plecos and is a great choice for aquarists looking for something visually impressive without requiring a massive tank. It is mostly nocturnal but will often be seen resting on hard surfaces during the day in a well-established aquarium.

Care Requirements:
A minimum tank size of 30–40 gallons is recommended, with larger tanks preferred for long-term care. They thrive in warm, well-oxygenated water with moderate to strong flow and excellent filtration. Provide plenty of hiding spots such as caves, driftwood, and rockwork, along with shaded areas. Stable water parameters and regular maintenance are important, as they can be sensitive to poor water quality.

Diet:
L106 Plecos are omnivorous with a preference for protein-rich foods. Offer sinking pellets or wafers as a staple, supplemented with frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and occasional vegetables such as zucchini. While they may graze on biofilm and some algae, they should not be relied on as primary algae eaters.

Tankmates:
They are generally peaceful and suitable for community aquariums with non-aggressive fish. Good tankmates include tetras, rasboras, peaceful cichlids, and other calm species. Some mild territorial behavior may occur with other bottom dwellers or plecos, especially in smaller tanks, so adequate space and multiple hiding spots are recommended.
