The Sterbai Corydora is a striking and popular freshwater catfish native to South America, easily recognized by its dark brown body covered in bright white spots and distinctive patterned head. Its small size, peaceful temperament, and charming “nose-to-substrate” foraging behavior make it a favorite for community aquariums.

This species is easy to keep, hardy, and ideal for beginners and experienced aquarists alike. Sterbai Corys are active bottom-dwellers that thrive in groups and enjoy a well-planted tank with soft substrate.

• Temperament: Peaceful, social

• Diet: Omnivore — sinking pellets, algae wafers, frozen foods, and occasional blanched vegetables

Behavior & Compatibility:

Sterbai Corydoras are social schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least 4–6 to feel secure and display natural behavior. They are excellent community tankmates and coexist peacefully with:

• Tetras

• Rasboras

• Gouramis

• Small peaceful cichlids

• Other Corydoras species

Avoid aggressive fish or very large tankmates that may outcompete them for food.

Tank Setup:

A planted aquarium with fine substrate (sand preferred) is ideal to protect their sensitive barbels. Include driftwood, rocks, and leaf litter to provide hiding spots and replicate their natural habitat. Gentle filtration and regular water changes help maintain water quality.
