Strawberry Peacock Cichlid (Red Eyes) - Aulonocara Hybrid

The Strawberry Peacock Cichlid is a stunning and popular hybrid variant of the Aulonocara (Peacock Cichlid) group from Lake Malawi. True to its name, this fish often displays vibrant red, orange, and sometimes violet hues across the head, body, and fins, with iridescent blue or gold highlights that shimmer under aquarium lighting. Each individual can vary in pattern and intensity, giving your tank a dynamic focal fish with personality and bold coloration.

This species is considered moderate in care—peacocks are generally less aggressive than many other Malawi cichlids, but they still require proper water conditions, plenty of swimming space, and thoughtful tankmates. They are best kept in species-specific or Malawi cichlid community tanks with compatible companions.

Strawberry Peacocks get along well with other Peacock cichlids and similarly sized, evenly tempered Malawi species. Avoid pairing them with overly aggressive Mbuna varieties or very delicate small fish, as Peacocks are active and may stress smaller tankmates. Proper aquascaping with rocks and caves helps diffuse aggression and offers territories.
