Apistogramma trifasciata, often called the Trifasciatum Apistogramma or Three-Stripe Apisto, is a beautifully marked dwarf cichlid native to slow-moving waters in the Paraguay and Guaporé river basins. Males develop electric blue sheens across the body, elongated dorsal filaments, and striking black horizontal bars — with the signature three-bar pattern giving this species its name.

This Apisto is a great choice for planted or blackwater aquariums. It thrives in peaceful community tanks or species-only setups with soft, slightly acidic water and plenty of hiding places like leaf litter, driftwood, and caves. Males can be territorial, especially during spawning, but aggression is typically limited to displays.
