Wild Caught German Blue Ram - Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi

Wild-caught Rams are a more delicate and naturally colored form of the popular German Blue Ram, prized for their refined patterning, subtle iridescence, and more authentic wild-type appearance. Compared to tank-bred strains, they often display softer blues, golds, and blacks with a more streamlined body and less exaggerated finnage.

These fish are known for their personality and intelligence, often forming strong pair bonds and displaying interesting social and breeding behaviors. When kept in the right conditions, they are active, curious, and highly rewarding to observe.

Care Requirements:
Wild Rams require more precise and stable conditions than most tank-bred varieties. A minimum tank size of 15–20 gallons is recommended for a pair, with larger tanks preferred for community setups. They thrive in warm, soft, slightly acidic water with excellent filtration and very stable parameters. A natural setup with sand, plants, driftwood, and botanicals is ideal.

Consistency is critical, as wild-caught specimens are sensitive to fluctuations and poor water quality.

Diet:
They are carnivorous and benefit from a high-quality, varied diet. Offer micro pellets along with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. Wild-caught individuals may take time to accept prepared foods, so starting with frozen or live options is often helpful.

Tankmates:
Wild Rams are peaceful but can be slightly territorial, especially when breeding. Suitable tankmates include small, calm schooling fish such as tetras and rasboras, as well as peaceful bottom dwellers. Avoid aggressive or highly active species that may stress them.

They are best kept as pairs, and will often form strong bonds in the right environment.
